History

In 1963, a seminar series named for the initiating site, a destination resort called the Napili Village Inn, was introduced. Napili is an old Hawaiian word meaning "a togetherness place" and Napili Bay was used, historically, by Hawaiians for family luaus. We are Ohana now, which is also a Hawaiian word used by many of our friends in the Islands. Ohana means family. The Hawaiian culture, however, provides a very interesting twist to the meaning. Ohana usually refers to the extended family. . . grand parents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and even the "in-laws" and their family tree. It carries with it the ring of unconditional commitment. Ohana is often depended upon in business agreements. Ohana "sticks."

What more appropriate conceptual expression for the continuing endeavors of each of us in the professional family? Ohana nui (clan), Pili'ohana, (kinship), lalani'ohana (lineage). Ohana, therefore, a family of seminars, inter-relationship for those choosing to openly share their achievements as well as their challenges, over the coming years.
